The Write Fantastic is an exciting initiative by professional authors aiming to introduce fantasy fiction to readers who have yet to experience the genre. Its mission is also to ensure existing readers know the full breadth and depth of current fantasy writing.

Today this vibrant and imaginative genre is inspiring new worlds of imagination across TV & movies, computer games & the Net, while the boundaries between speculative fiction and the mainstream are becoming ever more fluid.

2010 will see The Write Fantastic celebrate its fifth birthday and we're currently planning an exciting programme for the year.

We are also delighted to announce four new members; Kari Sperring, Ian Whates, Freda Warrington and Liz Williams are joining us, as increasing professional commitments see Mark Chadbourn and Stan Nicholls take a step back from our programme for the present.

Our work covers the gamut of fantasy writing from orcs and dragons, through high heroic swords and sorcery to reimagining of myth and history, and the magics of matter, mind and spirit.

Contemporary fantasy fiction is about far more than escape to other realities. Freed of the constraints and preconceptions of other kinds of fiction, it holds up a mirror to reflect on this world and time through the prism of vivid characters and enthralling drama that engage the imagination like no other genre.

Between us, we can offer a range of resources to libraries, literary festivals, reader's circles, writers' groups and bookshop events. We can talk on our lives as writers, on fantasy and science fiction in general and on specific topics. We can also come together as panels for question and answer sessions, give readings and conduct workshops on creative writing, both in genre and in general.
