Since our launch in May 2005, The Write Fantastic has held library and bookshop events, given talks to local writers' groups and contributed to literary festivals with panel discussions and creative writing workshops.
We've found readers' appetite and enthusiasm for fantasy fiction is boundless, from epic tales of sword and sorcery to gritty urban myth. It's been our pleasure to help make sure that no one is missing out on all the wonderful reading currently on offer.
As part of our 2011 programme, we're holding another day event, at the Jacqueline Du Pré Building, St Hilda's College, Oxford on May 28th.
On September 3rd 2011, we are proud to present
THE GLASTONBURY CONFERENCE FOR THE FANTASTIC IN LITERATURE
with Guest of Honour Freda Warrington and speakers including Dr Liz Williams on Dion Fortune, Paul Weston on John Cowper Powys among others.
The day will run from 10 am to 6 pm at The Grail Centre, 24 Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury. £20 for the day and since space is limited please email email@example.com
Our work covers the gamut of fantasy writing from orcs and dragons, through high heroic swords and sorcery to reimagining of myth and history, and the magics of matter, mind and spirit. Today this vibrant and imaginative genre is inspiring new worlds of imagination across TV & movies, computer games & the Net, while the boundaries between speculative fiction and the mainstream are becoming ever more fluid.
Contemporary fantasy fiction is about far more than escape to other realities. Freed of the constraints and preconceptions of other kinds of fiction, it holds up a mirror to reflect this world and time through the prism of vivid characters and enthralling drama that engage the imagination like no other genre.
Between us, we can offer a range of resources to libraries, literary festivals, reader's circles, writers' groups and bookshop events. We can talk on our lives as writers, on fantasy and science fiction in general and on specific topics. We can also come together as panels for question and answer sessions, give readings and conduct workshops on creative writing, both in genre and in general.
